Citing reports from RCMB-NCR Director Edgar G. Aquino, who facilitated the settlement, the parties arrived at an agreement on 08 June 2015 or 12 days after the filing of the Notice of Strike by Grolier Employees Workers Association (GEWA)-UIF-NLM-KATIPUNAN and Grolier International Finance Labor Union (GIFLU)-UIF-NLM-KATIPUNAN on 27 May 2015.

The Union Presidents Ms. Lourdes M. Tapiador and Ms.  Luzviminda C. Redito of GEWA and GIFLU, respectively, expressed their gratitude to their management and NCMB for the early settlement of their CBA deadlock and aspire to maintain their sound relations.

“It is important to preserve the parties’ good relationship and I believe that the union and management should help each other to preserve industrial peace through peaceful negotiations”, NLM-KATIPUNAN National President Fred M. Pullarca said.

Mr. Marlo R. Valencia, HR & Corp. Training Manager also shared his appreciation and insights.

“What we have experienced in this CBA negotiation which I believe made a big difference is that we started in equal footing”, Valencia stated.

“There are two important ingredients that made our conciliation-mediation successful, which are trust and open-communication.  The parties negotiated for what is best for both of us” he added.

The formal signing of the CBA was held on 17 June 2015.  The benefits provide among others a monthly wage increase of P1,300 during the 4th and 5th years of the CBA, rice subsidy of P2,500 per quarter and increase of overtime meal allowance from P100 to P150.

The total economic package for the 20 combined covered employees for the two Grolier companies is estimated at P1.3M covering the CBA period January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2016.
