The conflict between management and union of the Hospital Management Services, Inc. was relieved after successful conciliation facilitated by Con-Med Amorsolo V. Aglibut.
Representatives of the company and the union reached an agreement on May 7, 2015 to end negotiations for the remaining two years of their existing collective bargaining agreement, RCMB-NCR Director II Edgar G. Aquino reported.
Due to hard line positions of both parties, agreement was very difficult to reach, the union opted to seek for the assistance of NCMB.
On March 27, 2015, The Hospital Management Services-Medical Center Manila Employees Association-AFW filed a notice of strike appealing to bargaining deadlock on the economic provisions of the CBA. The issues include wage increase, meal allowance, vacation leave, loyalty pay, retirement pay, hospitalization benefits and signing bonus.
Because of the conciliation expertise of Con-Med Aglibut which reflected during the series of conferences, the parties confidently entered into an agreement and reached settlement of the case.
“The parties were very cooperative and heed to the advice of Con-Med Aglibut”, said Dir. Aquino.
They agreed to a P200 monthly wage increase for the year 2015 and 2016. However, the P15 per day mandated wage order shall be incorporated in the said wage increase.
In addition, a P2,000 loyalty pay shall be granted to employees who reached 15 years of service.
The management also agreed to grant P3,000 cash gift to all covered employees in the bargaining unit. Wherein P2,000 will be given upon signing of the CBA and the remaining P1,000 shall be given not later than August 2016.
Another part of the agreement is the grant of annual hospitalization benefits amounting to P20,000.
The total economic package for the CBA period covering the year 2012 to 2016 is estimated at P27,406,747.60.
“We are very thankful that despite huge disparity in our respective positions, we have harmoniously reached agreement. We are also thankful that NCMB approved our request to conduct some of the conferences in the hospital premise, it somehow helped us to reach settlement while maintaining our working relationship“, said Marian Mamerta, HMSI- VP for Finance.
