A chief cook was paid a total of P 2,308,635.00 in monetary benefits after the Regional Conciliation and Mediation Board (RCMB) National Capital Region settled his complaint through the conciliation-mediation services, Director Feliciano R. Orihuela, Jr., announced recently.
Orihuela, in her report to Executive Director IV Shirley M. Pascual, said that Benjamin M. Manalese, Jr., who used to work as a chief cook of CF Sharp Crew Management, Inc., on board M/V “MSC CHICAGO” sought the assistance of RCMB- NCR on November 28, 2017 claiming total & permanent disability benefits and Attorney’s fees.
On January 30, 2018, the parties reached an agreement where Manalese accepted the offer of US$ 45,000.00 as full settlement of his claims. Manalese received the said amount on February 19, 2018.
“The settlement of the foregoing labor dispute proves that settlement is still better than litigation because litigation is costly. The decision might even reach the Appellate Courts – Court of Appeals and Supreme Court,” Pascual said.
She commended Con-Med Rubilyn M. Abando for her efforts in helping the parties to find solution to their problems.
