An able seaman and a chief cook were paid a total of P 6,522,600.00 in monetary benefits after the Regional Conciliation and Mediation Board (RCMB) National Capital Region settled their separate complaints through the Notice to Arbitrate, OIC Ma Yolanda P. Minoria announced today.

Minoria, in her report to Executive Director IV Shirley M. Pascual, said that Mr. Quintin E. Mifania, Jr, who used to work as an able seaman of WAGENBORG MANILA INC. on board M/V DIEZEBORG came to the RCMB- NCR on April 04, 2016 to seek assistance regarding his complaint for disability benefits.

On 25 May 2016, the parties reached an agreement after the complainant accepted the offer of the management. Mifania was paid the amount of P 3,028,350.00.

On the other hand, the complaint of Mr. Narcissus L. Duran was settled after he accepted management’s offer of P 3,494,250.00 for his claims on 27 May 2016.

Duran, who was employed as chief cook of BSM CREW SERVICE CENTRE PHILIPPINES, INC., on board M/V NAVIGATOR VENUS came to the RCMB-NCR on February 01, 2016 to complain about his claim for disability benefits.

The complainants were assisted by Con-Med Rowena M. Gutierrez who needed her expertise to settle their complaints.

“The settlement of the foregoing NTA cases prevented the parties to elevate the issues to the panel of voluntary arbitrators thus reduce the number of cases brought to voluntary arbitration,” Pascual said.

She congratulated Con-Med Rowena M. Gutierrez for her efforts in helping the parties to find solution to their problems.
