Fourth Engineer-Seafarer was paid a total of P4,901,335.00 in disability and other monetary benefits after the Regional Conciliation and Mediation Board (RCMB) National Capital Region settled his  complaint through the Notice to Arbitrate (NTA), Director Feliciano R. Orihuela, Jr., announced recently.

Orihuela, in his report to OIC-Executive Director IV Maria Teresita L. Cancio said that Mr. Rolando S. Lumbres, who used to work with Scanmar Maritime Services, Inc. on board “MV Crown Emma” came to the RCMB- NCR on July 24, 2018 to seek assistance regarding his complaint for disability benefits, moral, exemplary and temperate damages and reimbursement of medical expenses.

His complaints were assigned to Con-Med Rubilyn M. Abando who conducted several conciliation meetings to settle his complaint.

On March 14, 2019, the parties reached an agreement after the complainant accepted the offer of the management of P4,901,335.00 as full and complete settlement of his claims.

“The settlement of the foregoing NTA is proof that conciliation-mediation works,” Cancio said.

“Had this NTA case not been settled, the parties may be forced to litigate before a voluntary arbitrator or panel of voluntary arbitrators,” Cancio added.

She commended Con-Med Abando for her efforts in helping the parties to find solution to their problems.
