The UPS Delbros Transport, Inc. management and the company’s union — the UPS Delbros International, Inc. Employees Union, with 90 union members, – ALU-TUCP — recently agreed on a Memorandum of Commitment (MOC) to establish its Labor Management Council (LMC) named as “Ugnayan Para sa Samahan” (UPS) in order to bring about smooth employee-employer relations in the company, held on 23 May 2022 at Belmont Hotel in Pasay City.
The RCMB NCR representatives – Conciliator-Mediator Estelita S. Bautista, Sr. LEO Grace E. Membrere and LEO III Ferdinand M. Hernaez, upon request, has assisted the UPS Delbros Transport, Inc. set up an LMC to foster understanding and unity, thus, embracing the DOLE’s labor-management cooperation program.
“The meetings will open communication lines for the discussion of problems and future plans of the company,” says Union president Ernie Celevante.
Operations Manager Tessa Santos on the other hand said, “Regular meetings at the LMC bring the staff together and help avoid gaps and break down barriers among them, thus, enhancing relations in the workplace.”
LMC uses a collaborative process for problem-solving rather than the traditional adversarial grievance process. It is the outcome of a continuing process of enhancing mutual trust and respect through information sharing, discussion, consultation and negotiations as modes of workers’ participation in decision making process on matters not covered by collective bargaining agreements.
Meanwhile, the company has three-year Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) effective from April 01, 2021 to April 01, 2023 with a provision on Grievance Machinery procedures that leads to set up the Grievance Committee (GM).
Grievance Machinery is intended to simplify, speed up, and install effective, expeditious, fair, equitable and just grievance machinery in the company in order to create an atmosphere conducive to good supervisor-employee relationship and boost employee morale.
The UPS Delbros Transport Inc. is engaged in international shipments of general cargo and food products, located in Sto. Niño, Parañaque City, and has 200 plus employees committed to sustain the delivery of quality service to its customers. -Ferdinand M. Hernaez
